I would be lying if I said that stylish maternity clothes anchor my pregnancy style. Although I am ashamed to admit it, as a freelancer working from home, who can blame me? Comfort is important in all trimesters. But it’s especially important during the first and second trimesters. My reality is a lot of baggy sweatpants and oversized leggings. At eight months, however, I have decided on several formulas that are cute and comfortable. These include moments such as meals out with friends, easy errand looks, and vacation outfits.

My top picks are: To show off my bump, I love wearing maternity clothes with fitted sweaters and stretchy, body-skimming gowns. Oversize button-downs and leggings, versatile staples that can be worn easily, are my go-to style when I want something looser. There are also occasion-worthy options for special moments like the babymoon or maternity photo shoot, as well as the baby shower, which require a lot of thought.

I have been able to wear many of my favourite silhouettes, including puff-sleeved midi dresses and sleek swimwear. There are also a few iconic maternity labels.

A Bump-Enhancing Dress

Jumpsuit maxi dresses for pregnant women are a blessing. It is soft and stretchy and can be worn with everything from simple tanks to turtlenecks. They look great with sneakers, sandals, and ankle boots.

Maternity Jeans FTW

Jeans are a common item that becomes a no-no when you become pregnant. That is until you get a pair of maternity jeans. To avoid discomfort, invest in underwear that covers your bump. They are the most adorable. Perhaps, not. They’re a game changer. Another nugget of wisdom is that bump-covering tops are rare after six months. It can be difficult to wear tops with elastic panels on your maternity jeans, so changing tops is a good idea. Longer, fluid designs are better – they cover your bump or hide the panels on your jeans.

Right-Now Ribbing

Ribbed dresses are more than just a fashion trend. They can also be a great maternity piece. These dresses are flexible and modern, especially in bright colours. They also feel great with all types of shoes. A birth flower charm is a great way to express your feelings. I have been wearing a Lily of Valley for my soon-to-be-born daughter.

Over-the-Bump Leggings

Although regular leggings may seem like something you could wear comfortably throughout pregnancy, the truth is that they are not. Even the most high-waisted leggings can slip with your bump. This made leggings that are over-the-bump extremely comfortable for me. I have a few pairs each day, in varying neutral colours, such as black, grey and brown. They look great with anything, from loose sweaters and flowing tops to large button-downs or sweatshirts. When your leggings completely cover your ribs, the options for tops are endless. Don’t forget your bra! I only can bear buttery-soft, seamless bras.

Smocked Silhouettes

Another trend that is favourable for baby bumps is smocking. This flattering look is easy to wear and comfortable. This style has many options, from stretchy necklines and shoulder details on tops and skirts with waist-accentuating designs to stretchy dresses and skirts.

Luxe Loungewear

Your favourite at-home comfies will be more worn during pregnancy than ever. Modern silhouettes and ultra-soft fabrics are great for elevating the style. A support band is a great way to hide growing bumps and aching backs during pregnancy. It can be worn under slouchy sweats for home or on errands.

For the Maternity or Baby Shower Photos

A sweet and delicate gown is a beautiful choice for maternity photos and baby showers. Don’s collection of California-elegant designs is my favourite, regardless of whether I am pregnant. However, I have found that silhouettes ranging from empire-waist maxis to smocked midis work well with growing bumps, especially when paired with cute flats to ease the strain on my already aching joints. ThirdLove’s Comfort Stretch thong is a great way to ground your look. I went up two sizes, as the second-skin fabric gives you a seamless, no dig, breathable feel.
