The engagement ring is a piece of jewelry that should last for a lifetime, whether you buy it together or give it to your soon-to-be spouse. After two years of postponing weddings and proposals, couples are now eschewing traditions and following their instincts regarding the design details, including wedding jewelry. You can expect to see extravagant styles in bridal jewelry, including rings.
In 2022 we will see a mixture of engagement rings, as there is not one ring for all.
Experts told us which styles of rings are expected to be popular in 2022. Scroll down to see the top nine engagement ring trends you will want on your finger (or in your hand).
Toi Et Moi
Recently, we’ve seen an increase in multi-stone celebrity engagement rings — Megan Fox, Ariana Grand Emily Ratajkowski. You can expect this trend to continue in 2022. Zimmerman believes that double and triple stone rings will be popular in 2022. Stone rings and unique combinations of gems and stones (think Fox’s emerald and Grande’s pearl) will be in demand.
She explains that the double stone “visually showcases two people coming together as a pair.” “We have seen more and more people choosing unique diamonds or gemstones to elaborate the love story being told by the two gemstones.”
Kathryn Money is Senior Vice President, Merchandising and Retail at Bright Earth. She tells us the timeless symbolism in the Toi Et Moi style is part of its appeal. While it may seem like a new and trendy style, the engagement ring has existed for centuries. The beauty of the Toi Et Moi engagement rings lies in the symbolism of togetherness and how the stones can enhance each other’s beauty.
Zimmerman says that the three-stone rings have been around for a long time but are experiencing a recent resurgence. The three stones represent the couple’s past, present, and future as they travel through different relationship stages.
Logan Hollowell is a jewelry designer and the founder of her jewelry brand. She says that multi-stone rings are a great way to express creativity. She says we are also in a time when people value individuality and artistic expression. The Toi et Moi ring exudes this.
Gender-Neutral Rings
Rings with gender-neutral options are now more widely available. It’s just the beginning. Money predicts that gender-neutral, simple designs will continue to gain popularity in the next year. Your favorite celebrities are also leading the way, with Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa opting for chunkier jewelry options this year.
Money explains that while dainty rings remain popular, more women gravitate towards bolder, chunkier designs traditionally associated with men’s fashion.
Colorful Gemstones
Colored Stones have a moment. Couples can choose something bright and bold to represent their story. This year, Zimmerman says that sapphire, morganite, and emerald are popular choices.
According to Michela Griff, Commercial Lead for commerce shopping payment app Klarna, “Colored wedding rings and accessories, such as colored bridal gowns, have been in high demand lately.” Griffin says that the app showed an increase of 115% for emerald stone rings in December 2021, making 2022 the year of this gemstone.
Vintage Nostalgia
Antique engagement rings have become popular in the same way as vintage and thrifting have taken over the fashion world. Vintage-inspired rings allow you to maintain your style and still find a unique heirloom. They can be a great way to express your love for a loved one, such as a grandmother or mother.
Zimmerman says adding a new band, diamond cut, or shape is one way to update an old-fashioned style. Other techniques, such as mil-graining, hand engravings, drapings, and filagrees, will bring vintage elements to your sparkler. Zimmerman says vintage-inspired rings allow you to create style and add sentimental value.
According to Griffin, Klarna found that vintage cushion cuts saw a 118% increase in sales late last year. Griffin says cushion-cut engagement rings are a timeless and safe choice for brides.
Contoured Stacks
Stacked styles are another ring trend that has swept the industry. This design lets customers be creative in terms of shapes and combinations. A stacked set will also help to highlight an existing item. Money says the stacked and nestled wedding styles can highlight a center gemstone and make a unique statement.
